INTERNET AND YOUR BUSINESS GROWTH

Published

on

The invasion event of internet remains one of the remarkable developments in the history of technology. One can touch different parts of the world with just a device command. Nowadays, the internet has become one of the integral tools for promoting business by making customers aware of business operations.

This is done through online advertisements, marketing, online negotiations and bargaining, online transactions etc. Today, you will find business owners using one aspect of internet or the other to find a stand for their businesses.

No doubt, there are limitations to the idea of linking business with the internet, still, that does not ground bar to saying internet does not encourage business growth. In fact, if well utilised and managed, challenges may be an imaginary concept for business owners.

However, most persons however have found it difficult to involve internet in their businesses for different reasons. This may be as a result of digital divide, fear of progress as a result of small scale business, lack of knowledge and desire etc.

The allowance of internet into your business says a lot about that particular business. It portrays a kind of picture to customers. So before you decide to invite internet to run alongside with your business be ready to stay unique not just letting your business have an internet experience. You may try out a website alongside social media platforms that is not dormant to keep the spirit of the business alive.

Also, it is a general known knowledge that customers should be given choices and respect, which of course no one should tell a business owner that.

Consumer’s satisfaction matters a lot as it will determine whether your customer will patronise you again or not. Ordinarily, being a business owner is a great task not to talk of bringing it to the internet world. You can do this with ease. So check these three ideas of mine.

1.         Social Media

Acknowledging social media in your business will enable growth in your business. Social media is an inexpensive tool for online business advertisements. Billions of persons across the globe find themselves using one social media platform or the other.

So, what is the point in not taking advantage of this opportunity to promote your business? You can get customers through social media and even reach out to them. Imagine having a page on Instagram or Facebook for your business operation.

As a small scale business owner, you should not be bothered about the size of your business. Try out social media! Who knows? That may be the route of promoting it to a larger scale business.

While using social media for your business operations, ensure you update it regularly so as not to piss people off with stale information and products. Even if you just stock up your business with a product you have been selling before, try and give a different update about the product, not the stale ones you used to post or advertise about in the past.

As you link up your business with social media, do not be a ‘one in a while’ operator. Try as much as possible to let people know the existence of your business, by sharing pictures and videos related to your business. Not just anyhow pictures and videos but pictures with great visuals and captivating videos.

A lot of your friends or followers on social media may not be interested in your products or goods but they can make referrals for you.

Remember, there is competition in every business, so also there may be persons with similar products or goods as yours that also promote their business on social media which you may be aware or not even aware of. Getting to know how your competitors run their business on social media, will be useful for you in constructing a better strategy.

Try getting feedbacks from your customers or patronisers, by asking for their views and opinions which shows you value them. In this regard, try to be accessible. Who knows they may not be satisfied and most do not speak about it rather they opt in for another product or goods, which may be that of your competitor.

There may be situations or occasions where you may hear bad news, rumours and bad commentaries about your products on social media. When such situations arise, you do not just sit down with fold arms but provide a rejoinder to such reactions, otherwise it may spring up long-lasting damage to your business.

Before getting your business on social media, consider an effective area which you will have a rock solid fan base. It may be through creating a page or a special account for your business operation and when you do that create a symbol of representation for your business such as banner, logo, pictures etc.

Apart from the fact that getting your business promoted on social media platform is for awareness of your product, you may likely meet people, especially successful business strategists or business operations advisers who may give you free ideas and information regarding any loopholes in your business operations and how you can improve. In this regard if you feel as a business expert such advice may be detriment to your business, shun it!

2.         Website

Having a website for your business operation will definitely be a foundation for a step-up in your business. It is a means of also making profit, through traffic generated having optimised your website for search on search engines, ads and EBooks. Linking your website with your social media pages will also go a long way to ease customers and your business admirers.

Your Email should not be left out from your business. Trying out opportunity for subscribing to newsletters by website visitors is not a bad idea. Being careful while sending messages about your business products, through email to your subscribers will be helpful. Most persons get pissed off by overwhelming mails.

Providing an avenue for comments and feedbacks, on your website will bring a close bond between you and your customers and business admirers. While considering creating a website, there should be a correlation between what your business operation entails and your website.

For instance, your business is majorly based on selling wears and the name of your business operation is ‘Eazi Wears.’ If you want to create a website for your business operations, you cannot base it on something like technology. That will be definitely absurd!

3.         Online Shopping and Supply Chain

Remember I mentioned earlier that there is competition in every business, so there are persons with similar products or goods as yours. Trying out online shopping and supply chain may give you edge over your competitors, as you are sending products to the doorstep of your customers.

Considering the very point that you actually took your business to the internet, situations will always come up where customers will need a product but long distance barrier will eliminate every transaction intention you have in mind with those customers.

Bringing in an online shopping and supply chain will give 100% assurance and trust in your business to customers. That is why you have to be true to the prior bargain and agreement that must have occurred between you and your customers.

The same products ordered for, should be the product to be delivered not a reduction or a change will be advisable. Online shopping and supply chain should provide access to preferences of customers with necessary feedbacks and comments.

It’s amazing how these days so many companies don’t even have a website, not to mention social media presence. The fastest way to offer customer service these days is through social media.

You are right Joanna. Most of these companies are not carried along by present happenings.

We may also iron it out from another angle, that these companies are seemingly small scaled. So, in this sense most feel they do not need any internet presence.

      Thanks for your reaction Joanna.

Great information, I learned a lot! What are the best ways to get customer’s feedback on your business? I know touched on social media, but should we be also using Google Forms?

    • Ogundele Olamide

      September 18, 2019 at 9:03 pm

Thanks for the acknowledgement Aisasami. Thanks for your question too. Basically, one cannot iron out the best way to get customer’s feedback in business without speaking from the viewpoint of customer because all these feedbacks route I pointed out take place within the confines of internet.

Based on my findings, there are different factors surrounding getting feedbacks through the internet. One may talk of time factor, slow pace internet operations, referrals, lot of questions posed and a lot more. It is important to bear in mind that customers are mostly bothered about their satisfaction. It will be absurd if a customer is engulfed with the improvement in the sale of a seller even though no bad intention is involved.

My advice is that feedbacks platform should be made easy for customers not a frustrating and pissing three pages feedbacks platform. If it has to do with online supply chain, feedbacks platform should be made available where the online transaction take place. For instance, if the transaction took place through the business website, then feedback platform should me made ready on the website after the transaction took place.

On the advise of google forms, it is important to also take it into consideration what will be an ease for customers not a frustrating one. Google forms is okay but it has it own demerits. A tangible information on feedbacks may not be derived from it as it can be filled many times and several disadvantages
