Most of these jobs take the self-employed format and also quite a good number of them may require working under somebody or for a company or establishment. In case you may want to consider any career choice of yours in technology check out these.
1. Database Administrator
There is so much about a database administrator. I can say a database administrator is in charge of the lifeline of an organisation. So much of information, data, and the demands for having database administrators are increasing recently.
Database Administrators ensure performance, integrity, and security of databases. They are also responsible for reporting, integrating with other applications, and making sure of the integrity and accuracy of data across multiple systems.
Database is a basic thing like a hard drive with a bunch of information that has relationship with each other. The information is not limited into a particular kind as it can be information of any kind.
It is a bunch of code that is made up by using the store procedure which is one way which done by code or program. It is the back end of any piece of software that is runs that requires a database. It means having a database will require having knowledge about programming.
Database Administrators work with developers or system engineers to integrate those databases. Since database does most of the work in the information systems that we use every day, database administrators ensure the stability and performance of those databases.
Skilled Database Administrators are in high demand, but can be hard for employers to find. This is good news for those interested in a career as a Database Administrator.
A database administrator is not actually the person that will create the database but in some cases, database administrators do create databases but it not often seen.
If you are interested in this line of career, you must be able to see the big picture; able to work both alone and on a team; strong mathematically; analytical skills; natural problem solver; and paying attention to details.
The responsibility of a Database Administrator is similar to that of a system administrator but the difference manifest because of the nature of how database works.
They are responsible for the server that runs a database; they are also responsible for the performance of the database; responsible for handling the backups and recovery plans for the database (this may require working with the IT team of the company and requires having a recovery plan at hand in case something goes wrong); responsible for updating the database software just like Microsoft; Installing new applications because essentially that is what is running on the database; Responsible for designing the database infrastructure by figuring, designing how the database infrastructure is going to work, how many servers do they need; security of the databases; giving the proper people in the organisation the correct permission to access the database and these persons are not just regular people in the organisation but persons from the IT department, digital department and so on; migrating database to a new hardware or between server; they create reports requested from different departments within the organisation; create new databases.
2. Cyber Security Analyst
You must have seen my previous post on cybercrime. This should give you a piece of what a cyber-security analyst does.
The work of a cyber-security analyst covers all areas of business from advising on password complexity, data loss mitigation and other security best practices and to the other end of the spectrum, protecting technical information relating to assets in space.
A cyber security analyst, also safeguard the critical functions and the data of aviation, maritime and land-based customers. A cyber security analyst cannot do without a rock-solid computer system and to this end; the screen directs concentration of a cyber-security attention.
This might be a spike in network traffic, indicating an attempted denial if service attack or an increase in failed authentications against systems.
Cyber security analysts respond in variety of ways with a broad range of tools to determine further and investigate and in some cases systems are locked down.
3. Computer System Analyst
Where you cannot utilise your computer to work as you would need it to, where your computer cannot handle all of your business efficiently, slow computer with processing issues and malfunctions – these are the issues that a computer system analyst deals with.
Computer system analyst analyse science, engineering, and business and other data processing problems to implement and improve computer systems.
A computer system analyst makes sure a computer system is operating at maximum efficiency for businesses. One needs to be realistic, investigative and conventional while delving into this line of career in technology.
You must also be genuine and motivated towards the drive that computer technology has.
4. Computer Engineering
If you want to consider making your way through to the field of computer engineering, you should know that computer engineering consist of two main subfields, which are computer hardware engineering (electrical engineering) and computer software engineering.
Careers in these two subfields have overtime been attributed to different fields of technology. Such as; computer vision (in the areas of robotics, 3D reconstruction, image tracking and so on), computer networking, embedded systems like avionics, rockets, small radios and so on, compilers and operating systems as compilers convert computer code into machine code that can be read by the computer, signal processing in the area of electrical engineering, integrated circuits, parallel computing computer science and so on.
5. Web Designing
Web design governs the visual aesthetics and visibility of the website. Anything colour schemes, layouts and information flow of the UI/UX design. Web designs are concerned about what the users see on their computer screens and mobile devices.
Skills and tools that distinguish designers from developers are photo shops, graphic design, logo design, layout, placing call to action buttons typography, branding and so on.
Through the use of code typography and the likes, a web designer brings digital experience to life. Thus, create living mark-ups of a web app when trying to pitch an idea to the theme or the fine tune the UI/UX of an app.
Web designers also offer work relating to the templates services like WordPress or Joomla, which allow you to create website using themes and widgets without writing a single line of code.
6. Software Developer
As a software developer, you tend to develop, design, and write software programs that are applicable to computer system, mobile phones, website formation etc.
Different ideas have been proffered towards who a computer programmer is and who a software developer is. Although there may be confusion as regards the two areas, the truth lies in the fact that, it depends on what you want to call yourself.
As a computer programmer or as a software developer, you can write codes and create software. It could said that the work of programming, form part of the field of a software developer.
As it stands today, with recent developments, to develop software, programming may not be needed.
To be a software developer, a thorough understanding of the whole framework and arrangement of software development is needed which means a partial understanding is definitely immaterial!
To fly as a software developer, you will also need to equip yourself with computer science and computer engineering. As a software developer, you may find your way through to different areas of the technology world. Be it websites, phone applications, computer software or even the internet.
7. Data Security Analyst
The work of a data security analyst, also known as information security analyst, hovers around the protection of data, mostly against breach especially from criminals.
Technological inclined companies and organisations often have a place for a data security analyst in their business establishment and such data being protected could be names, account information, business idea, payroll of staffs, lists of business products.
In order to achieve a rock-solid protection of data, a data security analyst will carry out necessary measures such as: building firewalls to prevent breach, appropriate arrangement of data based on their terms, day to day response to any defects in security, encryption of data, ensuring limitation as regards persons having access to the data and necessary measures as he or she deems fit.
