Tracing historical tracks through connecting dots till date, where we have International Network (internet), and the first concept of a foreseeable world of networking.

This was the construction of the first electronic network, ARPANET in 1969.

Subsequently, the creation of the first E-mail program came into play by Ray Tomlinson in 1972 and also in 1990; World Wide Web (WWW) was introduced in 1990.

Thanks to Englishman Tim Berners-Lee, who while working at CERN in Geneva, implemented a hypertext system to provide efficient information access to the member of the international community.

Electronic communications developed alongside internet.

The biggest task to overcome was to get different computers using different operating systems, to be able to read each other messages.

Today, we can speak greatly of the presence of a rock-solid International Network.

Notwithstanding the great benefits that came alongside with internet, it has done quite a number of damages to humans.

As there is more development in technology, so also defects and disadvantages sets in and increases.

What makes it more terrible is the prevalence of these defects in different societies.

Let’s run through the adverse effects of internet in our societies today.

Adverse Effects Internet May Have Caused In Our Societies

1.         Cybercrime

Millions of persons stick to the internet one way or the other for good means but some persons see internet as a means to commit atrocities.

Cybercrime is simply a crime committed with the use of a computer network device.

Cybercrime takes different forms, as the thread flows from internet fraud, child pornography, cyber-bullying, cyber-stalking, software piracy, virus dissemination, phishing scam, cyber-defamation, online blackmail, hacking, cyber-squatting, cyber-plagiarism and cyber-terrorism and so on.

2.         Misinformation

A lot of internet users at times visit internet to get information. Most persons believe any information they come across on the internet is true and valid.

Most things on the internet today paint the internet in such a way, that one may think it has diverted from being a source of information to a source of misinformation.

News, updates, recent developments about happenings in the world travel fast on the internet.

Trust me, as an internet surfer, you may visit a particular website, social media, blog or any platform to get information, whose writer or poster is not even sure or just got it from elsewhere.

Relying on that kind of information may alter your already acquired knowledge or perhaps, if you are just seeing it for the first time, you may just have been misinformed for the first time.

3.         Pornography or Obscene Contents

While surfing the internet, you may likely find one or more obscene content, while you may not have authorise it action.

This may be through ads on a website, link redirection etc.

Pornography is a visual representation of sexuality through sexual explicit contents by specialised actors and actresses either through pictures or videos of which is being acted.

Today, a lot of pornographic content fans get their explicit materials on the internet to suit their quest for pleasure and desire.

Overtime, reports, research have it that pornography has a terrible effect on viewers.

It can cause severe damage and effect to one’s thinking, social life, relationship with opposite sex and even cause a dangerous effect to one’s marriage.

When a person gets addicted to pornography, that person may only see sex solely as a means of recreation and fun.

There are medical consequences attached to the use of pornography apart from Sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs), they are erectile dysfunction, depression, mental disturbance, anxiety etc.

The mind plays a huge role to pornography users as every sex related action that may take place after watching or seeing an obscene content, is being triggered by an already form sex filled mind.

Masturbation in most cases is triggered by pornography.

This happens when consumers of pornography is all after journey of self-satisfaction, that cannot be defined and in fact arrived at.

Research also have it that when a person feels remorseful or regretful about seeing one pornographic content or the other.

Such person tends to  have low self-esteem, while viewing himself or herself as being immoral, while seeing others as being morally upright (this is even so, when the person inhabits a society where morals are placed in high esteem).

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines addiction as:

Persons who get addicted to internet are often pushed to evade boredom, depression to find a life, void of other human’s involvement.

I agree with all of these specially number addiction. People spend HOURS on the internet, particularly the social media that they don’t realize that they’re wasting their time instead of using it to do productive things.

I believe anything that is not in a normal range of use is not healthy. Addiction in using web can be prevented especially in children with the proper guidance of parents.
